Furniture Storage

Using specialist centres for furniture storage has never been more popular as a solution when space is an issue at home or at work.

If you have never used a furniture storage unit before, this page should be of help.

Even long time furniture storage users will probably find at least one or two handy ideas here.

Space Maker’s tips for better furniture storage:

Before you store
Make a list of all the items destined to be put into a furniture storage room, and keep it for future reference.

Estimate the value of each piece of furniture. Storage rooms are very secure but insurance is still essential – better safe than sorry.

Plan ahead and identify which items you are going to need to access least frequently and put them at the back of the furniture storage unit.

Protecting your furniture
Storage rooms at Space Maker are clean, dry and secure – but there are a few precautions you can take to be doubly careful.

Prevent scratches to tables, chairs and so on by placing sheets, blankets, bubble wrap or towels between the furniture. Storage centre staff can sell you protective material such as bubble wrap and plastic covers.

Position mattresses on something to allow air flow and prevent moisture build-up in the furniture storage unit.

Fridges and freezers should be defrosted and the door kept open to avoid your furniture storage room flooding and to prevent condensation.

For furniture storage items made of wood we recommend a quick coating of wax for additional protection.

Make space for your furniture
Storage is all about making space, and that means disassembling bulky items like bed frames. Tie the frame slats together and tape on the bags containing screws.

Chests of drawers and wardrobes are good places for non furniture storage – items that can go into boxes or clothes that can be hung up.

Tables can be placed upside down to utilise more stacking space for future furniture storage.
